El Limón
El Limón is a municipal district of Santa Bárbara de Samaná on the Atlantic coast of the peninsula, about half an hour from Las Terrenas by road. It is a rural setting, known for the Salto El Limón waterfall, where buyers mostly look for land, farms and houses.

El Limón is a municipal district of Santa Bárbara de Samaná on the Atlantic coast of the peninsula. From Las Terrenas you take the road east over the hills; Lonely Planet puts the drive at about half an hour. The village is small and rural, with colmados (corner stores), simple houses and fincas all around.
Its best-known attraction is Salto El Limón, a waterfall deep in the greenery reached by a trail from the village. Sources disagree on its height: from 40 to 55 meters depending on the guide. In 2020, work also started on a 5.7 km road between El Limón and Playa Marón, according to Dominican Today.

Life in El Limón is more rural and more Dominican than in Las Terrenas. For banks, large supermarkets or a social life, people go to Las Terrenas or Samaná. You need a vehicle.

What should you check before buying in El Limón?
- The title: in rural areas it is common to find land without a deslinde (survey) or with old titles. Have a lawyer check the certificate of title and the legal status at the Registro de Títulos.
- Land use: agricultural land cannot always be built on; ask the municipality and, near rivers or natural areas, the Ministry of the Environment.
- Electricity: El Limón lies in Edenorte's concession area; the Electricity Superintendency ordered Luz y Fuerza de Las Terrenas to withdraw from El Progreso del Limón.
- Access and water up to the plot, in the rainy season.
