What is Playa Bonita like?
Playa Bonita is some 3 km west of Las Terrenas town, between the center and Cosón. Wikivoyage describes a beach of roughly 1 km with no real village of its own, far less crowded than the town beaches. Behind the sand, among the trees, small hotels and guesthouses follow one another. At the western end, a wave draws surfers.
Lonely Planet notes that the beach is narrow and steep in places: if you want a very wide strip of sand for small children, go and see it before you decide.
What kind of property is there?
- Villas, some close to the sand and others on the hillside with sea views.
- Condos in small and mid-sized communities, with a shared pool.
- Small hotels and guesthouses, sometimes sold as going concerns.
- Land, mostly on the higher ground.

How do you get there?
A paved road leads there; according to Lonely Planet, it starts from Calle Fabio Abreu. The drive is short, but for groceries, banks and pharmacies you go back into the center. With a car or a motorbike, life there is easy; without one, you rely on taxis and motoconchos (motorbike taxis).
Who is Playa Bonita for?
- Couples and remote workers who want quiet a few minutes from town.
- Surfers who want the wave on their doorstep.
- Second-home buyers who want a beach visitors know, without the noise of the center.
What should you check before buying in Playa Bonita?
- For a condo you plan to rent out short term: read the condo bylaws. In 2026 the Ministry of Tourism put a draft mandatory registry of short-term rentals (RENATUR) out for public consultation; according to the specialist press, it withdrew the draft on 20 July 2026 to open a dialogue with the sector. As far as we know, no such obligation is in force as of the date of this page, but the issue may come back.
- For a hotel or guesthouse: keep the purchase of the building separate from the purchase of the business (permits, contracts, staff, taxes up to date).
- For a hillside villa: the condition of the access road in the rainy season, and the water supply.
- On the beachfront: the public coastal strip and a fully surveyed (deslindado) title, with your lawyer.
